Lizard Pilates
FAQs

Do I need to bring any equipment?
You will need to bring your own mat, and a folded hand towel if needed for your alignment or comfort. You will also need your own 2-metre resistance band. I have bands for sale or you can buy your own. 1cm thick mats (or thicker) are the most comfortable for Pilates. I will provide a class set of all the other equipment we use.
What do I need to wear?
You need to wear clothing that allows you to move easily. It is helpful for me to see how your body moves, to give you as much feedback as possible on your alignment, so relatively close-fitting clothing is ideal if you are comfortable with this, e.g. leggings/tracksuit bottoms and a T-shirt (not too loose) or vest top.
How many people are in the class?
There will be a maximum of 12 people (14 in larger venues). I give 1:1 attention and feedback as needed.
Will I be able to keep up with the class?
You should always do what feels good for your own body, so if something doesn’t feel right, let me know and I will adapt the exercise to suit you. I will always give options for the more challenging exercises so you can work at your own level.
Can I do Pilates if I’ve been diagnosed with osteoporosis?

Pilates can help you considerably, but there are special considerations that a teacher should take into account when working with you, and you may need alternatives for some of the exercises. I have a special interest in osteoporosis and an additional qualification (Level 3 Pilates and Bone Health) which means I can teach you safely and effectively in line with the latest evidence and guidelines.
Can I do Pilates when I am pregnant or have just had a baby?
I will not be able to teach you if you are pregnant or if you had a baby less than 6 months ago. If you had a baby 6- 12 months ago, please contact me to discuss whether it will be suitable for me to teach you.
Can I do Pilates after a meal?
It is best not to eat a significant meal less than 2 hours before your session, as you will be using your deep abdominal muscles for some of the exercises. Alcohol is not advised.
What should I do if I’m unwell or injured?
You should not come to class if you have symptoms of anything contagious, such as cold/flu symptoms. Please do not come to class if you have Covid-19 or have been in contact with anyone with symptoms. It is not advisable for you to come to class if you are feeling unwell in any way or have a new acute problem. It may also be necessary for you to see a health care professional to get permission to come back to class. Please contact me to discuss any new illnesses or injuries. If your situation is complicated and you are likely to miss a number of classes, please contact me to discuss the options.
